FRANKFURT (ODER) AND EISENHÜTTENSTADT ECONOMIC REGION

The cities of Frankfurt (Oder) and Eisenhüttenstadt have been promoted as an economic region by the German government since they joined forces nearly twenty years ago. The region’s main drivers are business, science, innovation and culture. Situated between Berlin and Warsaw, the two cities enjoy excellent transportation links via road, rail and waterways.

Automotive engineering, metal processing, media, IT and energy technology are just some of the many economic sectors active here. The paper industry and tourism also play vital roles. Big names such as Arcelor Mittal and Progroup, along with many smaller companies, are based in the region.

Two outstanding research institutions, the European University Viadrina and the Leibniz Institute for High Performance Microelectronics (IHP), draw significant global interest. Numerous local initiatives and programmes have been established to attract skilled workers to the region.

It offers not only economic advantages but also a diverse range of cultural and leisure activities. Located by the water and surrounded by greenery, the area is an ideal place to live and work.
